Over a decade after the previous two versions of Ys IV were released, a third version came out on May 26th, 2005, developed by Taito for the PS2. Though based more on Mask of the Sun than Dawn of Ys, it too makes numerous alterations to the story of Ys IV, but is even more notable for completely changing the gameplay. Although not very well received by fans due to its comparatively slow pacing, this was the most modern version of Ys IV available until the advent of Ys: Memories of Celceta.
